The Greatest April Fool's Day Joke Ever...

...was perpetrated by my brother and his wife. That is to say it is the day they eloped! When they got back and told everybody they got married, nobody believed them. We all thought it was an April Fool's Day joke. Not to mention the fact that April Fool's Day is the absolute most appropriate day for a wedding anniversary.

Now that Lisa has passed I'm wondering if her kids know this little story about the day they were married. They may know but since I'm not sure, I'll go ahead and tell the story for them.

Lisa was working at the Dairy Delight after school when Billy pulled up in his Blackbird (a Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am that my nephew has now inherited). The whole back of the car was filled with balloons. She was surprised to see him because they had been arguing and she thought they had actually broken up.

She was even more surprised when he walked up and said, "Let's get married!" It was the last thing in the world she expected to hear from him. But she said, "yes, " and got into the car and they took off for Virginia and got married.

When they came back home and started to tell family and friends everybody thought it was an April Fool's Day joke and nobody believed them. Lisa was wildly in love with Billy and he with her and they were more than ready to get out of the house and start their lives together. And they did.
