Here's what it "boils" down to - damnpamn's Blog - Blogster

They just finished a press conference about the water situation here in Charleston, WV.

They do not know how long it will take to flush the chemical from the water system.

They do not know if the chemical is still leaking into the river so that it continues to get into the water system.

They
do not know if it will cause any health problems but have erred on the
side of caution in telling everyone not to use the water except to flush
toilets.

They have set up water filling stations all over the 9 affected counties.

FEMA has trucked in water as well as West Virginia - American Water Company - that water is free.

Retailers are receiving shipments of water after selling out last night.

The panic seems to have stopped

There is a lovely licorice scent to my bathroom when I use the toilet now (what the chemical smells like)

When
they flush the chemical from the system they will be releasing it via
fire hydrants and other water flow systems.  it will be released into
the environment where it will be absorbed into the ground and rivers
which flow into the Ohio River which flows into the Mississippi River
which flows....

Notably absent from the press conference were any
representatives of the chemical company which caused the leak.  I must
say that I think WV Am Water is responding to the situation in the only
way they can.  Politicians were also there to deflect any questions that
needed asked of the chemical company just as they always are when there
is a chemical leak or a coal company disaster.

....everything is par for the course so far.
